Supersonic Low Altitude Missile, or, in short, SLAM, was a project by US Army to develop a nuclear powered rocket, capable of delivering atomic warheads anywhere on earth, while being immune to enemy fire by flying at mach 3 just above the ground. At some point someone noticed that it would make a perfect vengeance weapon - with minor modification of exhaust it could spew radiation from its onboard reactor wherever it flew, for weeks after it was launched. It was deemed to provocative to the Soviets, so the project was cancelled, and everyone lived happily ever after. Or until 2018, when Russians announced their own version, called Burevestnik. "Ahhh, those Russians..."
