Convoy PQ-17 carried vital supplies from western allies to Soviet Russia in 1941. Its escorts were recalled though, due to the reported threat of heavy German ships. Those never materialized, yet the U-boots and Luftwaffe did, and they had a field day. Out of 35 ships, only 11 made it.
